Accessing internet at work - During Breaks!

IBM also supply the free "MIDlet Manager" software for PPC. Go to http://www14.software.ibm.com/webapp/download/product.jsp?s=p&id=DVDE-634P22, and select the link "Trial: IBM Workplace Client Technology, Micro Edition 5.7"

You have to register with IBM (free), but this will allow pretty much any PocketPC device to run pretty much any Java application or game designed for the J2ME standard - such as the Java software available for mobile phones.

For web browsing and applets, there is a browser available (NetFront) for around $30 that includes a JVM that will support applets - see http://www.access-company.com/products/netfrontmobile/browser/33_wm.html

Mac D and passing First Aid

Ok, so the First Aid course is over, I passed the tests [should hope so too, they told us the answers often enough!] made a bit of a bodge in the second practical when I left someone to go and call an ambulance, (I neglected to make sure his wound was securely bandaged with something in case of fainting.)

Other than that it was fun to meet some very nice colleagues and hear their stories, share four days with them and watch them all pass first time. We had an excellent Maccy D's breakfast this morning. I went into Hammersmith Broadway's McD and there were two customers, by the time I had completed and received my order I turned and saw about 32 people waiting in two orderly queues - Brits are such lovely peaceful people, and so patient.

Very Happy Colleagues too.

My summary of First Aid.

  • Keep it simple.
  • Check your own safety first.
  • Assess the situation - Remember what might be going on inside the casualty.
  • If you need help ask for it.
  • Any injury beyond your help needs a call to 112/999.
  • Do whatever you can, think ahead and be prepared for whatever could happen next.
  • Prioritise, what is the most significant problem/duty.

In a test situation, you are simply being asked, "What would you do?"

Combine from the elements of your First Aid knowledge a workable plan.

Getting on-line to blog

Today was the final day of revision, I wanted to note funny moments and the like while we chatted, but this morning on the tube, the XDA crashed.

Still, it's now the journey home and I've managed to connect.

http://jon.dendy.org is the new shortcut for these blogs.

On the way to First Aid training I picked up breakfast at McD's, happened to mention it when I got to H.Q. (still in good time,) and it appeared to upset a few of my colleagues. The most vocal of these suggested I bring him breakfast tomorrow and now I have a shopping list of McD nosh to collect on my way through Hammersmith Broadway in the morning.

Day two of the First aid course in Richmond.

So, today I was on the second day of my First Aid training course. more revision than practice, we spent a lot of time reading, but saw some funny practices.

It's always amazing how many different ways people can tie a triangle bandage other than the correct ones. Plus it's fun to see how people think about various things and how macabre they can be when studying the care of others!
